Consent & communications.

Last updated 12 October 2026

In short

  • We only email you if you ticked the box to say yes. The box is never pre-ticked.
  • Every email tells you who sent it and has a one-click unsubscribe link.
  • We never publish photos of children without consent from a parent or guardian.

1. Our principles

Consent must be informed, specific, freely given and easy to withdraw. We ask in plain language, say exactly what you're agreeing to, keep a record, and act on a withdrawal promptly. This follows Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), BC PIPA and PIPEDA, and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

2. Newsletter and emails

When you subscribe, you tick an unticked box that reads:

“Yes, send me FESAC Charity Foundation's newsletter and occasional appeals by email. I can unsubscribe at any time.”

We record your email address, the date and time, and that wording, as proof of consent. Every email we send:

  • identifies FESAC Charity Foundation with our mailing address (2 13678 100 Ave, Surrey, BC V3T 0V3, Canada) and how to reach us;
  • includes a working unsubscribe link, at no cost to you;
  • is acted on within 10 business days of an unsubscribe request.

We may still send messages you need, such as a donation receipt or a reply to your message, even if you're not subscribed.

3. Volunteering

When you register as a volunteer, you agree to two statements:

  • “FESAC can contact me about volunteering opportunities.”
  • “I have read and agree to the Volunteer Waiver & Release of Liability, including the photographic release.”

Read the full Volunteer Waiver & Release of Liability before agreeing. Volunteers under 18 also need written consent from a parent or guardian.

4. Photos and videos

  • Volunteers: the waiver's photographic release lets us photograph or film you at events for promotional and educational use. We won't disclose your identity without your written consent.
  • Children and young people: we only take and publish images with consent from a parent or guardian (and the school, where relevant), and the young person's agreement where they're old enough. We never publish a child's full name or location alongside their photo.
  • Older people and other beneficiaries: we ask before taking photos and respect a no.

See our safeguarding policy for the full rules.

5. Changing your mind

You can withdraw consent at any time: use the unsubscribe link, or email info@fesaccharityfoundation.com. If you ask us to remove a photo, we'll take it down from our website and channels promptly. We can't always retrieve copies already shared by others, such as press.

This policy is written in plain language to be clear and honest. It is not a substitute for legal advice and will be reviewed as FESAC grows.
